My Painted Door

Last year my sweet and thoughtful husband ( Hi Suds ) decided to surprise me by painting my garage and front door.
We were getting ready for Christmas obviously!
(last Christmas)

I was soooo HAPPY when I got home.  I don't have a before picture, but the door was the same color as the railing.  Cream.  It was a little boring.

I love the way the front door looks with the house number on it.  Here's an inspiration shot from PencilshavingsBlog.com

From the street, it is really hard for someone looking for my house to find it because the numbers on top of the garage are brass and light.
So I decided on an impulse to paint my address on the door. Plus I was a little bored!  I followed a really easy tutorial here.  And this is how it goes ...

First I printed out the letters and numbers on my printer with a font that was simple. I had to make it as big as the computer would let me, then enlarge it on the copier a few times to get the size I wanted.

Then I scribbled pencil all over the back of the image.

Next I held up the letters where I wanted them and traced the outline.

Can you see the image?  It was too small first time around so I made it bigger.

I have a gallon of semi gloss super white from painting trim in my house.
I just used that and a little paint brush from my kids supplies. (Thanks Kiddos)

Trying to keep a steady hand.  Not sooo easy ya know.
(Don't look at my roots please, I need a dye job)

And Finally ..... My Numbers are done!

BEFORE ( a little fall and winter and hubby shoes in pic )

AFTER ... With my new wreath.

I love it of course!!!!!!  But don't look toooo close, or you will see some imperfections.

BUT... It doesn't have to be perfect to look good.  Right?!!!!
